First time shopping for health insurance, need advice (please read the post)

Hi, I just turned 21 some time ago, and recently my mom and I Medi-cal coverage was cut because my family income doesn’t fit anymore. I did some research and asked people in my college and they said that CoveredCa is a mess and only used as a last resort. While on Reddit, I saw many people praise that It helped them financially.

Because we are getting tight on money right now, my dad plans to divorce my mom so we can all have insurance.

I only work part-time, and my college doesn’t have any health insurance options either, while my dad has his employee insurance, my mom and I have to go to the market. I am learning about health insurance and I feel nowhere good enough to decide on buying one. I figure I should ask this question since our Medi-Cal ends at the end of October, and Covered California enrollment is going to begin soon.

My mom and I have type 1 diabetes so no health insurance is a no, and the important thing for us is to have medical supplies every month. We are living in the Silicon Valley area, CA.

I just feel overwhelmed by the hold process, and the plans on Covered California that I found that fit us are all so bad.

What should I do?

Thank you for all your help!
