Finding affordable coverage
Here is a little synopsis of what I’m up against for the 2023 year. For reference, family of 3. Spouse self employed. Around $57000 AGI a year.
My open enrollment for my current company is now and my premiums for a HDHP shot up to $333.12/week. I cannot afford this. They also offer a MEC and MV plan at $95/week but it covers almost nothing and isn’t a realistic option for insurance.
I looked into the marketplace for my state (PA) and I know we won’t qualify for subsidies, which was fine because even full premium price was better than my current employer price. Problem is, no providers in my area are in-network. The hospitals are but none of the providers participate. So i can’t use that option.
We were denied for CHIP for my child because we currently have insurance. This insurance expires end of year but according to my county rep, all I can do is let my sons insurance expire and apply later and “hope for the best.”
I have read nothing but negative opinions in this sub about private health insurance. So I’m at a total loss of where to turn. Does anyone have any guidance at all?
