Fidelis dropped one of my four kids, didn’t notify us
We thought our account was on auto payment when we enrolled in Fidelis, come to find out that it wasn't and we were late on one payment. We ended up paying it in full a few days past due, but with no notice, they dropped only one of our four children. The one child they dropped has medical needs and we only realized he was dropped from the insurance when the hospital where he was scheduled to have his MRI called us saying his insurance was inactive. We received no notification that he was going to be dropped, and the payment we made had been applied to the other three children, but not him, even though the amount we paid covered his portion of the plan too. We spent about 4 hours on the phone with Fidelis employees trying to find out why he was the only one dropped but there is no explanation from anyone. Am I wrong to think that he was dropped because he has medical needs? Is this legal? I am insurance-illiterate and I know we made a mistake by submitting a late payment, but they currently have our full payment yet only one child was dropped. I am enraged as we had to cancel his brain MRI (he had a brain tumor removed in December) and wait for insurance to kick back in in DECEMBER. We had to reenroll him through the NYS of Health in the same insurance plan he was on and have spoken to so many people trying to get the coverage back-dated to October 1st but it seems nearly impossible for some reason.
Am I wrong to thing he is being targeted by the insurance company? Do they think we will get so fed up that we will drop them entirely and get a new insurance plan? I need some clarity. They also have our money and he’s not covered, so is that not theft?
I'm sorry for the long post … I am truly enraged and can't get any kind of answer out of anyone and I want to scream. Their website doesn't load/allow me to log in, getting someone on the phone is like pulling teeth. Advice welcome.
