Fiancé’s insurance termed without notification, despite being told otherwise.

Hello all,

My fiancé recently acquired a new job that sponsors employee insurance through VSP (vision) and Delta Dental (dental). His current insurance (Home State Health via Missouri Medicaid) confirmed that the addition of these plans would not affect his current plan with them. However, HSH disenrolled him without notification and his insurance termed on 8/31. We are confused, because his new insurance(s) were not set to begin coverage until tomorrow (9/6). In addition, HSH had recently (8/23) sent a letter of authorization for a surgery scheduled also on 9/6. Their specific service date range listed on the authorization letter is from 9/6/24 to 10/6/24, since he will need follow-up appointments to remove stints, discuss any rehabilitation options, etc. My fiancé had also received a call from the hospital yesterday morning confirming his surgery was covered and would have no charge.

Needless to say, I'm beyond lost. I spoke with a representative of Home State Health who directed us to a number that wasn't able to be used because his insurance had termed. I spoke with a representative of the hospital providing the surgery and they scheduled us with a Financial Advisor, but could not give more information in regards to the sudden change of approval / coverage.

I'm not really sure what's happened, and I'm extremely concerned for my fiancé as this surgery is critical for his physical health. Any advice is welcomed, as well as questions to ask the Financial Advisor / other representatives we may speak with.
