Federal Poverty Level (FPL) for 2024

federal poverty levels 2024

The Federal Poverty Level ( FPL) is a benchmark to assess individuals’ and families’ income levels relative to the federal poverty threshold. In California, health insurance premiums frequently adapt positively based on income in relation to the FPL. Individuals or families with incomes below a certain percentage of the FPL may qualify for subsidies, which can significantly reduce their health insurance premiums. Conversely, those with incomes above the threshold may face higher premium costs.

The FPL chart gets an annual update. These limits come from the latest Federal Poverty Level (FPL) figures, which gets updated every year by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It’s all about making sure the info you rely on is current and accurate. See the chart below for 2024.

Consumers who are enrolled in a Silver 94 plan or families with an income around the new 322% Federal poverty Level want to review their income in Covered California. During the year the Medi-Cal agency can review your file and move you or your children to the Medi-Cal system.

Medi-Cal Redeterminations (Medicaid – State Welfare Program in CA )

Medi-Cal redetermination (also called renewal or recertification) is a process where states redetermine an individual’s eligibility for Med-Cal. This process was paused in early 2020 due to COVID-19, but it’s starting again in April of 2023. If you’re no longer eligible, your coverage might end

Some individuals may be automatically renewed by the Med-Cal agency based on the information the state uses to confirm eligibility (e.g., tax returns, bank accounts, unemployment, SNAP eligibility)  Others may need to take action and provide documentation to verify their MediCal eligibility. Beneficiaries will receive a notification from their state Medi-Cal agency via mail or email when they have their overage undergoing redeterminations. Members must have their current contact information on file with their state agency. It is imperative to respond within the 60-day time frame provided so beneficiaries will not lose their coverage.
