Family member is considering quitting their job because their insurance is terrible, but is enough to stop her from getting help through the state.

She recently took on a new job and had to work there for a while before she was eligible for insurance. When that came through, she realized it was terrible. It doesn’t cover visits to her doctors and she’d have to pay outright for appointments. It also doesn’t cover prescriptions which she’s now paying for out of her own pocket and not even bothering with the more expensive ones.

She lives in MN and has gone through all the usual routes to try and get on state medical. However, not only does she earn too much (she brings in around $33k-$34k but the most you can earn to get on state medical is about $28k) but the insurance provided to her apparently meets the requirements that they’re legally supposed to make available.

Currently, she has no option but to find a new job because she’s older, not in great health and has many prescriptions and regular appointments.

Is she missing something here, or is this a simple case of “shitty employer offering shitty insurance – find a new job”?
