Established doctor who doesn’t take insurance

I’m rejoicing because my company just switched midyear from our no-name insurance company to Blue Shield because no local healthcare conglomerate would accept the former, despite repeated assurances. They were a complete racket. Insurance is still ridiculously expensive, but at least they’re not increasing it.

My psychiatrist, whom I’ve been seeing for more than a decade, only accepts cash or check; no insurance. It is highly encouraged — including monetarily, obviously — to go with someone in network. We had a webinar this week and they encouraged us to let them do the convincing of the doctor.

Mine has been practicing for 30 years and there’s no way in hell that an insurance company would convince her to change her payment practices. Apparently this is very unusual. She charges $300/visit and I see her every two months. I’ve got a $500 deductible, though. I think the insurance company pays 60% instead of 70%.

Debating whether I should find a new one through the network or just submit claims (which is a PITA and I always procrastinate).
