This is a rant. Yesterday I was in excruciating pain and I although I thought it was diverticulitis it still needed to be confirmed. In the past I’ve struggled with diverticulitis but haven’t had a serious issue since 2020. I called my doctor but they couldn’t get me in and wouldn’t send in a prescription because it needed to be verified as kidney stones and UTI’s mimic the same area of pain. I laid in my bed crying in pain for the longest because I was hurting but also worried about what my out of pocket expense would be if I went to the ER. I finally went and had blood work, urinalysis, and a CT scan with contrast. All was reviewed and no surprise it was diverticulitis. At hospital I received some pain medicine (no prescription), an antibiotic (prescription)for the infection and was released 6 hrs later. I paid my ER co pay of $180 and now I await the final bill for the 20% I will have to pay. I work ft and have a decent paying job but no matter the salary hospital bills scare me. I’ve been saving to get a large picture window replaced in my home prior to the winter season. I’m already mentally preparing myself that it won’t occur this year and to get the plastic and tape out.
