EOB and office billing questions

Good morning everyone

So I received my EOB for a crown I had done recently. The difference of what I was estimated vs what my EOB said was roughly $200 off. In this case I over paid my dentist at time of appointment.

I called in to see what we can do about the overage I paid.

Upon talking with the person who answered the phone, I was informed that the extra $200 paid was to cover lab fees for creating the crown I had made.

I asked why that wouldn't show up on the EOB or show as a separate claim for my insurance and she stated it was because insurance wouldn't cover it.

Some notes about my insurance: it's MetLife and my coverage does include Full Cast Nobel Metal crowns, which is what I opted for. So maybe she meant the lab processing fees?

For other insurances or doctors offices I usually still see a lab claim processed even if it wasn't covered.

Does what the office said make sense? Should I just call them back and dig more in to it?
