I will start this by saying that I have a lot of experience with marketplace plans and the costs associated with those plans without any subsidies applied.

I recently got a new job and I'm considered a part time employee. I'm in WA state. As I'm onboarding, my employer shows a breakdown of premium costs and they show what portion is company-paid.

They claim that their health insurance premiums are $800/month for 1 person and that they pay about half of that ($400+).

I know from experience that the amount they're charging their part time employees IS the full cost of a plan without any employer contributions. I have a plan for myself through the marketplace right now and my premium is just over $400/month. I've never seen any insurance plan for 1 person cost $800+. I feel like they're trying to make it seem like they're offering a great deal and then handing over the full bill to the employee.

This seems super shady to me. Is this illegal in any way?
