I am the only employee for a small business and have been fully covered under my employers group plan, which also covers my boss and his wife (not employed). I recently got married and switched to my husbands’ big group insurance for the IVF benefits.

After being told I could decline employer coverage- and that I would even be “gifted” that monthly premium cost to maintain benefits in another form, my employer is now back peddling after finding out how much independent coverage for them both will cost. I’m now being told that they will be insuring me even though I decline.

I really can’t have this messing with my IVF coverage as it’s already very hard to navigate and advocate for myself. Besides that point, I am also just angry that I will now be losing that extra benefit.

I guess I don’t know enough about health insurance to know what my rights are here or how much being double insured will affect me. Any advice or course of action you suggest is greatly appreciated!
