Double health insurance to be able to get HSA access?

My wife has access to federal employee health benefits and we're currently on the MHBP standard family plan. I work for a different organization, and am considering getting an individual HDHP next time benefit elections come around. This would mean that I would be insured under MHBP's standard plan, and under the HDHP from my work.

The plan there is that I could max out the married contribution limit to the HSA while paying ~$40 per 2 week pay period for the privilege. There's a one time kick up from my employer on first year of HDHP enrollment of $500 for a single plan. At ~$40/pay period, I'm looking at paying ~$1040 for the year to be able to put ~$8k (2025 HSA contribution limit for married) into a tax advantaged account.

We could go with the GEHA or MHBP HDHP and just maintain one insurance provider for the family, but for various reasons having a more traditional health plan is desirable.

I also feel like this is insurance and benefits and stuff, and I'm probably painting myself into a corner by doing something that makes sense on paper but is actually dumb because X/Y/Z. What am I missing? Is this a good plan or a bad plan?
