Hi all,
I went in for my (free) annual exam, and was also billed for an office visit (double-billed). The CPT code was 99213.

The doctor states that this extra visit bill is because we discussed 4 topics during the exam that were not covered under the annual preventative visit:
1. Hashimoto's thyroiditis
2. Prolactinoma
3. Fatigue
4. Gut dysbiosis

These are all pre-existing conditions mentioned in passing, as we went over my annual labs. The doctor brought these up, not me. There was no diagnosis or in-depth discussion, maybe 1-2 minutes per topic.

Does this still count as a separate office visit? Am I really not allowed to discuss ongoing conditions at the preventative visit? Figuring out whether to dispute the $60 my insurance wouldn't pay.

I don't mind paying, if that's the way things are, but it irritates me that my doctor did not mention the change of policy, as these topics have been included in the past.

Thanks in advance!
