Hi, I’m a 22 year old male that has diverticulitis. I’ve had 4 flare ups in the past 2 years and the hospital has strongly recommended surgery as these could get worse, to the point where I would have to get mandatory surgery. I’m opting for an elective surgery that would be for my colon as that is what’s affected. I looked into the surgery I need and it’s estimated to be about 15,000-40,000, I am not capable of paying for this surgery out of pocket. I’m already paying off hospital bills and this surgery would put me at a great debt. I am pretty stressed about this whole ordeal as I do not have the insurance to cover a surgery like this. I’ve looked into different insurances but I end up confused on the different plans and if I would even be accepted with a preexisting condition. This is not something I want to put on my parents either as they are helping me with the hospital bills. I work full time and am likely able to afford insurance that can be paid monthly. I just have no idea where to start and if this is even something insurance can help with. Just need some guidance please.
