Does yelling at them ever work?

I have been trying to get approved to try a medication that needs prior authorization since the begining of April. I have an ACA version of Blue Cross Blue Shield. The first prior authorization was denied because whoever submitted it made a typo (they put my condition down as arthritus, presumably this was the first option in a drop down menu) the second time it was denied because there were two medications they wanted me to try first– one which I have tried and had a terrible reaction to, the second one, I’ve tried a med that is incredibly similiar to it.

Because my doctor had put in a prior authorization twice, I was made to go through appeals, which I was told would take up to 30 days. So I call 29 days later to see what the hold up is only to get told they never received an appeal– even though my provider sent it, twice, to a number my insurance confirmed was correct. So we sent it a third time, they claimed not to get it, gave us a different number to try, and are still unable to find it today. My current medications are not working and every day I go without being able to try something else, I am suffering a considerable amount. I asked my health insurance if there was any way they could make an exception and just let me put in a normal prior authorization again because the first one only got denied due to a typo, and they said no. I asked if there was anything I could do, and they said no, my doctor has to do it. Well, the support staff/nurses are all trying their best seeing as they’ve sent in paper work for me four times now but they can’t control that my insurance magically misplaces it every time. My doctor has been asked if he can do a peer to peer but he’s impossible to get ahold of.

If I call and complain about this, is there any chance it could help me get treatment faster? I don’t like calling people upset, especially since whoever I get will just be some random customer service rep who has no control over what’s going on, but I know that sometimes putting in a greivance is the only way to get them to pay attention to you. My condition isn’t likely to kill me, but it could, and I’ve been suffering for months while I wait for them to do something instead of being able to try new treatments that sound much more promising than what I’ve done so far, and they don’t care. I just want help and they won’t give it to me, they won’t even tell me no so that I can at the very least move on and try something else. Is there anything I can do that could help fix this?
