Doctor told me health insurance isn’t worth it

My doctor who is not affiliated with a hospital told me he doesn't think health insurance is worth it after some struggles with health insurance reps. He's willing to give me a cash rate that's cheaper than what I pay after insurance and thinks that Americans should not have health insurance because it's a scam and there's no reason you can't negotiate a cash rate with all providers. I get his point. I had thousands of dollars in medical debt years ago and it didn't impact me getting a mortgage whatsoever. I also ended up paying a fraction of that once the bills got to collections and I negotiated the bills down. One of the collection agencies even OFFERED to erase one of the bills completely. My mom had a $40k ER bill. She had insurance. She called the hospital and they lowered it to $8k. I'm not going to cancel my insurance or anything since we have an HSA that helps a lot but I'm curious what your thoughts are on this? I see a lot of horror stories on the internet but I don't know one person IRL that has gone bankrupt from medical bills.
