Doc office refusing insurance but insurance says it is covered? Who is right?

I recently saw my PCP in December. She told me I need to see a OB (she thinks it’s weird that I still havent gotten aunt flow from giving birth). My PCP referred me to the OB that is in the same building. I asked if my insurance is accepted there and she said oh yeah, if you are accepted here, you would be there too cause we are all under the same group. So I called to schedule an appt at the OB office and the receptionist told me that they dont take my insurance. And I was shocked and said that my PCP said you do. They said no. I couldn’t stop thinking about it and called my insurance (UHC choice plus) to double-check if the OB is in network and accepts my insurance. Guess what? They said that OB DOES take my insurance.

I called back to the OB place and told them that my insurance said yes you do take my insurance and are in network and the receptionist STILL kept saying no. So, I asked to speak with the office manager. They office manager said the same thing and I’m over here like that just doesnt make sense to me why my insurance said yes but you guys are saying no. So they called the billing department and they said they accept SOME UHC and to send my cards and they will verify. Like seriously?? What is the biller gonna do different than call UHC and double check? They still haven’t gotten back to me.

This isn’t the first time this has happened. I am in need of a pediatrician. I checked with UHC if the pediatrician I found is in network and accepts my insurance (because we all know it’s always the patients responsibility to check everything). So I called the pediatrician office and asked if they are accepting new patients. They said yes but asked what health insurance do I have. I said UHC. They asked if it’s through an employer. I said yes. Then they said we are no longer taking new patients with that insurance. What??? Is that even legal to do if UHC told me yes they are accepting new patients and you are covered and in network??

Thoughts?
