Difference Between Seemingly Identical Plans
My employer has switched from the more traditional employer health insurance plans to an ICHRA, so I have until the end of this week to pick out one of the 60 some available individual plans to choose from. I believe I have it narrowed down to one I like that will only cost me $96.49 per month (employer covers the rest of the premium), but I noticed another plan that would cost me $179.44 per month. Thing is, I've checked the plan details and Summary of Benefits and I cannot for the life of me find a single solitary difference between the two. Here's the basic rundown:
Both have a $0 deductible Both have a max out-of-pocket of $6,550 Both are gold level EPOs Both have the exact same copays ($15 for primary and specialist, $280 for ER, etc.) Both are from the exact same insurance company
I feel like I'm crazy, but I can't help but think that there has to be some sort of catch here. If the plans seemingly provide the same coverage with the same copays, then why does one cost $82.95 more per month? I will still likely end up taking the cheaper one, but I really just need to know what could possibly explain this difference in price.
If you would need it for reference, the two plans are Highmark Together Blue EPO Premier Gold 0 and Highmark my Direct Blue EPO Premier Gold 0.
