Didn’t realize I wasn’t paying my premiums

I had an issue with credit card fraud a few months ago and had to cancel my credit card. I didn't realize that was the card that was paying my premiums, so forgot to update my payment information. I know this was a very stupid mistake, but I'm trying to fix it.

Just got notice from my insurance provider (Kaiser Permanente) that they are terminating my insurance and I can't get coverage again until open enrollment. I have a serious illness and cannot exist without health care.

I absolutely would have paid if I had known, but I honestly didn't. I never saw a letter in the mail or email. I got notification in my health portal, but I don't read every message that comes through there.

I'm appealing it right now, but very concerned. I had an expensive ER visit that would retroactively not be covered.

Has anyone had something like this happen? What are the chances of getting it reversed? What are my options if they don't offer me my coverage back? Am I on the hook for that $50k bill, and do I have to go to Mexico for my healthcare for the rest of the year?

Thanks so much for any input!
