Dentist is charging me 1k when I just went in for preventive care / cleaning

I went to a new dentist I called them before made sure they took my insurance and I wouldn’t have to pay since it was just a routine checkup / cleaning.

I even sent a message and called before going to see if they got a pre authorization for the preventative care / cleaning.

They took x-rays and now I get a bill from my insurance stating I owe $1000 because they did a CT scan and some 2D pictures I was never told it would be extra and I never said I wanted to get those done. I made sure to say I was just there for my routine cleaning / checkup that’s included on my insurance.

My insurance said I have to send them a letter grievance letter explaining what happened. But I haven’t received anything from the dentist yet.

What should I do? Reach out to the Board of Dentistry?

This place was sketchy when they said I needed a “deep cleaning” I’ve never needed one before so I knew something was off I didn’t do any other procedures with them.

Should I even bothering reaching out to them or just go through reporting them to the board of dentistry and do the grievances letter?

Worst case scenario I can always let it go to collections and disputed it with the credit bureaus later on.

Any advice ?
