Covered California and mixing PPO with HMO among family members?

Background: My wife is going on 5yrs cancer free! She had stage 3-4 invasive ductal breast cancer treated with double mastectomy, chemo, and radiation (nuke it from orbit just to be sure)… the risk that reoccurrence is in any of the major organs and isn't testable. Her oncologist is the best (part of UCLA Health, and literally wrote the book on her kind of cancer)… we don't wanna leave her cancer team.

Health insurance Premiums are through Blue Shield of CA , we qualify for APTC which cuts our bill down a LOT! However, the 2024 premiums are increasing by about $100/mo for my family. The rest of us are thankfully in generally good health and only get annual physicals and vaccines.

Question: Are there any gotchas for mixing our insurance coverage? If wife is on PPO but the kids and I move to Kaiser HMO we would save $150/mo, meaning this coming year after increases would be cheaper than last year. The kaiser offices and hospital would be closer than all the UCLA Health stuff, so thats convenient.

Thank you for any wisdom or experiences which might help us choose the right path for our family.
