A family friend has had a chronic illness for several years now and reached a breaking point this past weekend – ended up overdosing on medication and ending up in the ER for 2 nights while they waited for a psyche eval. She was evaluated and doctor basically saw she had a good support network, no other issues than chronic illness and didn’t necessarily want to end her life but rather end her pain and couldn’t justify having her move into a psychiatric facility.

Her exit papers said “suicide attempt” and “drug overdose” (drug was identified just being vague with details for privacy)

I know she has Medicare but also supplemental insurance- and wanted to ask what kind of costs are we talking here for two nights of ER treatment. In browsing around it seems clear that Medicare won’t cover any costs if it says suicide but wondering if that’s the same for other insurance companies.

Additionally if the doctor recognized she didn’t want to end her life (rather, pain) can we get that removed from their system after the fact?
