could i get this jaw surgery at least somewhat covered
hi, i posted this in another insurance subreddit but i think it is also appropriate to ask here.
im sorry if this is a ridiculous question or just flat out a reach, but i dont know where else to ask. for perspective, i’m currently 21 going on 22. i live in camden county, new jersey. i am a college student, and my family’s income is about 115,000/year.
when i was younger— up until ages 15-16– i had straight teeth and no overbite. i’ve had severe OCD, body dysmorphia, and anxiety for most of my life. from the ages of 16 to 18, i experienced sexual abuse and began grinding my teeth in my sleep because of the stress and anxiety. i developed a overbite as a result, and i still teeth grind. i’ve been given two sets of mouthguards but they’ve both fallen out in my sleep/i’ve subconsciously taken them out in my sleep so i’ve given up trying.
when i chew foods or gum i often end up ripping the inside of my mouth because my teeth are misaligned. my jaw is sore when i wake up and i get bad headaches. you cannot/BARELY see my bottom teeth when i talk or when i smile. i would say its a moderate overbite and not TOO severe. the appearance of my overbite has drastically negatively impacted my mental health and self esteem. i got braces when i was 20 but they did little to correct the overbite. they were not covered by insurance.
i want to get jaw surgery to correct my overbite. it would not only help my body dysmorphia, but help with my jaw pain. i don’t want a chin surgery because that would not help relieve my jaw pain. i was curious, combined with my mental and physical health concerns for this, if it could be somewhat covered by insurance. i am under my family’s insurance (horizon BCBS) but i dont know if this covers dental.
