Copay vs HDHP? QLE (Newborn), NICU, OOPM, and Deductible?

Iowa, ~$95k household income, 26M, 29F, 0M

Our first child was born on 5/20/24 and spent nine days in the NICU. All is well and we are enrolled in a routine developmental program through 18 months just to keep an eye on things. Obviously, we will hit our OOPM. I went to add him to my health insurance plan through work (BCBS Illinois) and compare our options. Currently, we are on the Copay plan. However, the $2,000 HDHP has a lower premium (as expected) but also a lower OOPM (not expected)? The deductible type for that HDHP is aggregate (not embedded like the other two) so I'm wondering if I'm missing anything in thinking it would make sense financially to switch to the $2k HDHP for lower monthly premiums and lower OOPM? I called BCBSIL to confirm the deductible from Mom's prenatal visits would transfer over if we decided to switch (she hit her deductible in April or May). Want to make sure I'm thinking about this correctly and maybe there are other things I'm not thinking of?

Also, was planning to hold off on dental and vision for him this year. Happy to answer any questions to figure this out!

Thanks!
