Copay accumulators MN and Secondary Insurance
I have a HDHP plan, $3200 deductible in MN through BCBS of MN, out of pocket maximum is $5400
I recently got married and we have added myself to my husband's plan. He's in a union so his insurance is much better. It's still BCBS but his deductible is $300, and out of pocket is $1000. We just filled out the paperwork for this but they told us it will be retroactive to the beginning of the year.
I have a new prescription for a biologic from a specialty pharmacy that costs $3000 per month, but I signed up for the copay assistance program where they provide $7500 annually to help pay for the drug until deductibles are met.
I haven't gotten my first delivery yet, but my BCBS account shows I've met my deductible (Ive spent about $500 prior to this prescription) and there is a $3000 approved claim for the new prescription.
Will this get reversed? Ive been reading about co pay accumulators and have not found concrete information about what the laws are in MN so I assume they haven't been banned here.
If they do reverse the claim for the prescription, would my husband's insurance kick in so I won't have to pay $3K per month when the assistance runs out?
Thanks for the help!
