Cobra won’t cover orthodontics insurance due to issue with past employer

So I got a call from my orthodontics office telling me I owe almost 2k. I was laid off and got on cobra during my treatment March of last year. My past employer submitted what I was on during my employment and it seems to say that I was not covered for orthodontist work. Which doesn't make sense since I was covered for roughly for the first 3 months of the year.

So I spoke with my insurance company and Cobra and they submitted a request for updated information. They recieved responses that stated the information given is correct. Which again, doesn't make sense to me since I was covered for the first few months of that year while working for my past employer.

I wouldn't be surprised if its an administrative error somewhere since Cobra didn't have me covered for 5 months but was still charging me. So now I'm being told to contact my past employer since the plan may have changed but I'm not sure what plan changes after the first quarter of the year.

Any other options I should look into?
