COBRA – no insurance for 60 days. Should I still sign up for it? I’m clueless when it comes to stuff like this.

I’ve searched a lot in this forum before deciding to post this. My husband got a new job. His health insurance ended end of August. His new health insurance won’t become available for 60 days. Well 60 days is how long we have to enroll for COBRA…. It’s literally to the date that his new benefits kick in. PLEASE I need someone to explain to me in like kindergarten terms 🤣🤣 or at least tell me some recourses I can learn from. Couple of questions.

What happens if we don’t enroll and need medical assistance from now until his new insurance kicks in? For example, if we don’t apply for cobra right now but tomorrow we need to go to the doctor for whatever reason, or if we were to have a serious medical emergency…. I’m assuming I can’t send in the COBRA application AFTER the fact of needing medical assistance, right??

It says in the packet that COBRA will only be covering / paying 20% if we need medical care.

We also have a one year old and i can’t shake not having health insurance in case something happens between now and November.

However, COBRA is so so so expensive for the 3 of us.

Any advice?? I’m literally begging for help!
