In between jobs and have a few kiddos. Current plan since we have good health is to wait to enroll in cobra in case we don’t need it since it applies retroactively.

A little unclear on how it works logistically. My current plan would be to see how our medical bills look in a month. If we have a few doctor visits or medications, my plan is to add up the cost and see which is more bang for the buck (cobra or self pay). We have a hdhp with a met deductible but the premium is $3100 for a family unfortunately. What happens in the immediate when they ask for insurance if we dont have cobra? Since they don’t need pay immediately, if we decide to get cobra, can we have the claims reprocessed with the insurance and get reimbursed?

Also – since we have 60 days to enroll, if we decide to get it on month 2, since its retroactive would we have to pay the premium for both months?

Is this an HSA eligible expense?
