I lost my employer coverage in January when I had to take a medical leave of absence from work and chose to enroll in COBRA. I continued paying my COBRA premiums to maintain coverage through the month of June (I was high-risk pregnant, had a complicated birth, and then had a baby in the NICU, so the high COBRA costs were worth it).

I decided to discontinue COBRA after June, as I will be starting a new position and receiving healthcare coverage in August, and I could not afford to pay the COBRA premium for July. I intended to notify my previous employer in writing that I wanted to discontinue COBRA but honestly forgot. The premium for July coverage was due on June 15th and I simply never paid it.

Is it possible that because I never notified my previous employer that I wanted to discontinue COBRA, I could be responsible for the July premium?

I’m afraid they’ll contact me saying they covered my insurance costs for July and that I owe them the premium cost that I never sent in June.
