COBRA, ARP and Health Connector in MA

Hello,

This post is for seeking support from Massachusetts residents.

I lost my full time job with the last day of employment to be May 31, 2024. My former employer sent info on COBRA and I am a little confused about what to do next. I realize in MA adults are expected to have health insurance at all times. My current health insurance expires May 31. In reading over info on how to apply for COBRA, the monthly premium is too high for me to afford. However, it shares information about ARP which may provide premium assistance through 12/3125. So, I can complete the enclosed COBRA continuation coverage election form, send to the former employer and than what? I am planning to go to the local Health Connector walk in center on Tuesday as I am not sure I understand what to do here. When I read the Health Connector webpage, it read like I may qualify for MassHealth right away as it was an involuntary separation and I am not sure what my earnings will be going forward. I will need unemployment until I find a new job. I did not want to leave my former job. I am trying to understand how to take care of myself with what options are available. I will file for unemployment the first week of June. Any feedback is most welcome. Or, if there is a subreddit on this topic for MA residents, please share.
