Claim not paid for, what do I do?

So I must start with: I am on my dads insurance, and I do not know much about insurance or terms they use so I will do my best to explain. I have social anxiety. I struggle to talk in person or on the phone to anyone unless I have a script or have rehearsed what I’m about to say.

I went to my doctors office for my annual physical and Pap smear. My doctor then wanted me to get some blood tests done that she said is “routine” at their office when their patient reaches age 25. So I went ahead and did the blood tests. Now, I have an app that my doctors office uses for patients. It says I have a bill of over $400 to pay and it is due on the 20th of this month.

I already have called the billing department of my doctors office and I assumed it was a name issue because my dad had me under my maiden name on the insurance and had just changed it because I received a letter in the mail stating that the insurance name and my name at their office was different and that it needed to be changed. Like I said I told my dad about this and he changed it online (he has blue cross blue shield). So when I called the doctors office and asked them if it had not gone through insurance due to the name difference, she looked me up and basically said “that’s not the issue here, it says you’re not covered, so if I were you I would contact blue cross blue shield.”

Ok so now I need to contact the insurance company. What does she mean I’m not covered? How can she tell that on her end? Anyway, so, I need to call them, but what exactly am I asking them and how do I ask it? Do I just ask them to check if I am indeed covered under my dads insurance? All I have is my insurance card, is that going to be enough information to give them to get this issue fixed? How long will it take them to re-review my claim and pay it? As you can tell I’m am clueless what to say here and I’m am very confused and worried that I will be stuck with this large bill that should’ve been covered it wasn’t for some reason. Please help.
