So I started Cigna dental this year and I had a lot of dental work done. Between march and may I had 9 appointments. For every single appointment, the dentist office gives their charge for the treatment (filling, cleaning, etc) and then the patient/insurance portions. I pay what I owe and I think it’s over, then months later, I get a message from the dentist office saying that I have multiple balances on my account. Apparently once the claim is submitted, the charge from the office is showing as less than the charge they send to insurance. The claims are also being processed 2+ months out from the appointment. For example, I got a deep cleaning done which was $206 based on the office price, I paid $22 at the time of the appointment which was 10%, insurance should have covered the 90%. Now, insurance has the price of the cleaning as $276, leaving the total around $27. Now the office is saying I owe $5. I now have balances on my account for every single appointment between March-May, totaling around $500 MORE than what I have already paid. The office charges total $1,700, which I have paid and the insurance total is $2,300. I don’t understand what’s going on and why the dentist office charge is so much less than what insurance has. I tried speaking with a Cigna rep but they were all together useless and didn’t have an explanation. The dentist office also doesn’t, they just have the balance. Which makes no sense when compared to their price and the coverage. Has anyone ever dealt with this? Why do they take months to process an appointment? Is the dentist at fault or the insurance? Pls help this is driving me nuts
