Changing my name with frequent appointments/prescriptions (NY)

I’m on my husband’s employer BCBS plan in NY. I’m in the process of changing my name (first, middle, and last) while going through a lot of health stuff and am concerned about minimizing disruptions to my care/coverage.

I’ve updated my SS card and was planning to next update my driver’s license, knowing I can show my passport with my old name on it should any appointments/procedures require photo ID.

When I finally inform my husband’s employer of the change and they send it along to BCBS, I’m planning to start calling doctors in the order I’m about to see them, but what happens when a doctor I saw in the past files a claim in my old name? Is the correct name for them to use my name on the date of service, or my name on the date of filing? Do insurance companies keep the old name on file to allow for an overlap period, or will all claims under my old name immediately be denied?

Also, if one of my medications is refilled under my old name because I haven’t gotten the doctor to update the prescription in time, will the claim be denied?

Any advice to make this go as smoothly as possible would be much appreciated! Thanks.
