Changing insurance soon–have surgery now, or wait?

Hi all, I'm in the middle of a divorce and will be getting onto my own plan once it's final in late summer/fall. I am currently on a BCBS plan, and will still be on BCBS, just a different plan. I need surgery on my foot that is not urgent, my doctor said I can have it now or wait until I'm onto the new plan.

If I were to have the surgery now, on my current BCBS plan, and then switch to my employer's BCBS plan once my divorce is final 6-8 weeks later, would I face any issues with coverage for follow-up visits, any secondary surgery that may need to take place, etc? Timewise I would prefer to have it asap so that I can be fully recovered for a trip I'm planning this winter. I'm terrified of the idea of having the surgery and the new plan not covering any bills related to it. I know pre-existing conditions are a thing of the past, but could they deny claims based on the fact that I had surgery shortly before I knew I was getting ready to switch plans? Would love some guidance so that I can make an informed decision!
