Changed insurances mid-stream of diagnosis/surgery

So on my previous insurance, I was in the process of getting a referral to a neurosurgeon for surgery consultation. One of the insurances/benefit we had was a surgery benefit that required a few extra hoops to be jumped through before we could utilize it. At the time we lost that insurance and coverage, I was still waiting for the referral to be done…hadn’t even seen the neuro yet.

Now that we don’t have that insurance, we also no longer have the same PCP (affiliated clinic that was owned by husb previous employer, that can only be utilized by employees and families). That PCP has done/ordered all the diagnostics needed for the referral but just never did the referral.

What do I do now? I know I need a need PCP. Do I just make an appointment with one, have them get my records, and then get them to make the referral? I’m assuming that since current diagnostics few months old) were already done through previous insurance, my current insurance wouldn’t ask for all new stuff…? Do I call my new insurance to ask?
