Carelon/Harvard Pilgrim/Prior Auth nightmare. Any advice appreciated.
I have 100% genetic testing covered after prior auth.
Been on a long, long journey to conceive.
Fortunate to get pregnant in April.
First appointment was at 8 weeks. Doctor recommended NIPT testing at 10 weeks. I was told prior auth could be backdated so I got test done 6/17.
Been an absolute nightmare since. So many phone calls all of which I have documented.
Every call I made, I learned something new.
Most recently, 8/14, I learned from Harvard pilgrim that as of June 1, Carelon handles prior auths, not Harvard Pilgrim. So alllllllllllll this time, the company who ran the test (Natera), my doctors office and me, have been going through Harvard Pilgrim for prior auth and it’s gone NO WHERE.
Today I learned due to the time lapse of being 30 days past the test (June 17) is the reason why Carelon has not processed this prior auth and now my only chance is to file an appeal to Harvard Pilgrim. What. In. The. F.
My hands were completely tied with handling this prior auth and I will do anything to avoid paying this bill. I feel like the ball was dropped by Harvard pilgrim, by not providing accurate info where prior auths needed to go to. Because had they provided that info to begin with, you can bet I would have made sure it got to Carelon.
*It should be noted I called Harvard Pilgrim numerous times and confirmed where prior auth needs to go. I was given their fax, address and portal info. It wasn’t until I spoke with a rep on 8/14 that said, “oh wait, your plan changed, I forgot, this is still new to us, it needs to go to Carelon instead”.
Any suggestions? Thank you.
