Canceling Work Provided Health Insurance – California

Hello, I wanted to know about canceling work provided health insurance in California. I've been getting put through the wringer to get a really important medication approved.

My husband and I married in May of this year and was added to my husband's insurance. At the time, canceled my personal insurance and was still on my work insurance. I purchased my own insurance before I started working at my current job for anyone about to ask why I had both. My work insurance is bottom of the barrel, bare bones, I do not have any deductions from my paycheck for the insurance. Right after I got married, I informed HR about the update and provided them with my paperwork/new ID with the name change. However, HR never asked me if I wanted to cancel my health insurance and almost 7 months later I want to cancel it since having it automatically considered as my primary insurance is screwing me over.

Please help me, I don't know if it would completely screw me over in the approval process for the biologic or if I can even cancel it at this rate. I understand I could just wait until open enrollment and cancel it (which if all else fails, I will do), but I get these injections twice a month and the pharmacy keeps calling me about it. I'm feeling super overwhelmed trying to navigate this on top of a bunch of other family health issues
