Can you have two plans in two different states?

Long story. On paper my husband and I live in two different states. We are both constantlyyyyy traveling but we’ve spent more of the last year in his state and plan to move here full time and I’ll become a resident.

Here is the dilemma. I have private insurance in “my” state. I will be undergoing a big procedure in my state in May, but immediately moving fully to his state afterward and become a resident there. I will need a few months of medical care still once I move.

The dilemma- I’m nervous about using my insurance in a different state for all the after care. I don’t even know if that’s legal? The problem is, I won’t be able to sign up for his insurance until next November. So I’d have a 6 month gap.

I have the option to sign up for his insurance through the end of this month and it’s a great plan for a reasonable price (we could make it work to pay both for 6/7 months)… but is that even legal? To have two different insurance plans in two different states? I can cancel my current plan at any time so I could cancel it as soon as I make the move and I’ll be covered by his plan.
