Can you enroll in two different medical insurance plans?

Hi I am 22 and currently on my stepmoms health insurance. Unfortunately that insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program, kicked me off the Vision and Dental at when I turned 22. I just started an Americorp Fellowship that does offer insurance but it says you can participate provided you are not currently enrolled in another medical insurance plan. They said I can’t just enroll in the dental and vision. I would really like the vision insurance because I need new contacts soon and the type I need are pretty expensive. I also had some cavities last year and they said some teeth are at risk and need to be watched. I don’t want to leave my stepmoms insurance because the job is only 11 months.

I’m basically wondering what people know about being on two plans and not telling them I am on another plan. Is that risky and I can get in trouble? Or do you think they just don’t want to pay for my plan if I’m already on one? I have to enroll in the next 2 weeks.

Also it seems pretty strange at 22 I lost just vision and dental, is that something you think I could argue? Because I thought you are allowed to be on a parents insurance until 25 and it’s odd I only can stay on for certain benefits?
