Can someone help me compare these insurance plans from my employer?
My employer is switching to Cigna in 2024 (currently on UnitedHealthcare). There are three options, two of which are considered HDHP. I normally use a HDHP plan because the premium is usually vastly cheaper and I don't go to the doctor often because I'm 30 years old and healthy so I like to put that extra money in an HSA. However, based on this information for our new Cigna plans, the HDHP plans are basically as expensive as the PPO as far as the premiums are concerned… I thought the whole purpose of the high deductible was so my premium wouldn't be as much.
Other than an annual physical that's free, I normally only go to a specialist/psychiatrist once a month and pay about $64 for the visit with my current HDHP plan with United… The copay for the Cigna PPO is $75, so it doesn't seem like I'd even be saving any money by going with a PPO since the copay is higher than what the visit would cost at full price before my deductible is met. The same goes for the medicines I take… The 30-day supplies are only like $10-12 anyway, so I don't see how it would benefit me to get a PPO.
Any help deciphering this stuff and choosing a plan would be greatly appreciated đ
