Can kids count towards household size if they are covered by private insurance (Medi-Cal)

Not sure if anyone in a similar situation will read this but here goes: My gf and I are unmarried with 2 kids. She was able to qualify for Medi-Cal for her and the kids with household size 3 as she works part time to be able to spend more time with them. I work full time, pay all of our household bills and have insurance (for me) through the VA. A couple of months ago, she received a letter stating her and the kids were going to be dropped from Medi-Cal due to the state realizing I live in the household and my income has not been reported. Immediately I went to my employer and got insurance for me and the kids. She contested the Medi-Cal decision and won so now her and the kids have Medi-Cal again. My question is, will the kids having coverage through me disqualify her for Medi-Cal? She seems to think me covering the kids will prevent her from being eligible to claim them for household purposes. I've always allowed her to claim them on her taxes. She wants me to go to my employer and drop the private insurance but I really don't want to. Any thoughts?
