Can I stay on my parent’s plan if they previously denied coverage for me not independently enrolling?

Hi all- I really appreciate your help on this!

As I best tried to explain in the title, I (23) just started my first job out of college at the beginning of this year and chose not to enroll in insurance through my work and instead still be covered by my parents' insurance. My parents' insurance has slightly cheaper copays than me, covers providers I've been with for years (would not be covered under other plans), and most importantly is free for me.

However, when I first started my work used the same provider as my parents, and that insurance provider got a little testy and refused to cover things that they had previously covered, due to the fact that I "had the option to independently enroll and chose not to", which sucked & was a hassle to fix. However this enrollment period, my work has chosen a different provider, and I'm wondering if my parent's insurance would still know I had the option to independently enroll or not.

Would my parents' insurance still know even if my work has chosen a different provider? Is my parents' insurance legally obligated to cover me even if I have the option to be independently covered?

Thanks!
