Breast reduction insurance coverage and provider questions
Hi there! I've already posted in another sub but I wanted to try my luck here as well. For context I am on medicaid.
So I'm in the process of trying to schedule a breast reduction surgery but I'm a bit at a loss at how to proceed. I'm having difficulties even finding a provider in my area.
I contacted a plastic surgery center in my area and they told me that they are not contracted with insurance companies. So I have aetna for insurance, and I figured they had a provider search on their website so I try that method to find a provider. But, since this type of surgery isn't usually covered unless it's medically necessary, I guess they chose not to include that category, and I was unable to find surgeons that specialize in breast reduction.
So I guess my options are to either go to my PCP and ask for a referral, call my insurance company and ask if they have any providers in-network, or to just keep searching surgery centers until I find one until I find one that will work with my insurance? Does anyone know what the typical course of action would be for a surgery like this that is usually cosmetic but can be considered medically necessary and coverable?
