Bloodwork was done as part of gastroenterology visit. I received bill from lab for copay?

(Please be kind to me I’m kind of an idiot when it comes to this stuff)

This has never happened to me before even though I’ve had blood work and urine samples taken and sent to labs at other doctors.

I got a letter in the mail saying “Final Request” claiming they’ve reached out to me multiple times (this is the first letter I’ve received). It looked like a scam because of the alleged “urgency”. It did not look like a bill, it was a letter.

They want $25 which is the amount of my copay. I called (I got their number online- did not call the number listed in the letter) and the lady was a total bitch and basically told me I need to learn how the world works…

I didn’t ask for the blood test, it was just a part of my initial exam where I was trying to figure out my stomach issues. One of my results came back higher than normal and the test was redone on the next visit. I did receive an actual bill for the second test- this one says $26 and change, but it was adjusted and they were billing me for $3.37…..

I can pay these of course (and I’m glad it’s not an out of pocket cost or anything) but it doesn’t feel correct? Of course I’ve gone directly to labs before and paid the copay as it was not a part of a different doctor visit which makes complete sense to me.

Is this normal?

(I did call my insurance company about this and the call was dropped. so before I call back and wait on hold for an hour I thought I’d ask here too)
