Billed by a provider who didn’t physically see us? What to do?

So my spouse and I recently had a child. We were in the hospital for two days. During this time, the only time we saw anesthesia was when a CRNA came in and gave an epidural prior to birth.

We just received a claim to our insurance for a total of $5000. Now we are not going to owe all of this, but it still says we may owe close to $600-800. I opened up the EOB to see what this bill entailed and it is broken down into two charges of $2,500 each. One has the CRNAs name listed by it and another was a different provider who we looked up and it’s an actual anesthesiologist.

So since the only person we saw was the CRNA we looked back at the hospital notes on the online medical record and there is a note from the actual anesthesiologist on us and it even documents a physical exam and such.

Does this mean that we were billed by both the anesthesiologist and CRNA? Because if so, isn’t that fraud? Because we absolutely never saw an anesthesiologist and here they are putting in a note like they saw us and documenting an exam.

If so, what’s the best way to dispute this?
