Been over a month since applying for hospital financial assistance?

I applied for hospital financial aid on 6/10/24 and haven’t heard anything yet. The billing department called me about a second statement they sent earlier this week, and I told them I was waiting to hear back about my aid application.

I work in a clinic associated with the hospital, and I’ve seen financial aid apps approved / denied within a week or two so I’m not sure why it’s taking so long? Do I need to do something else?

One of my providers said because I work for the same medical group (I’m not employed by the hospital but I work directly with the hospital, providers, and insurance/billing via an affiliated clinic, it’s a mess lol) and I’m a young (28F) adult with cancer, they may be trying to find funds for me, but that seems wrong??

I have insurance through my job but I applied for financial aid because why tf would I pay for having / treating my cancer if I don’t have to, you know?? 😂

My plan is to not pay anything until a decision is made one way or another with my financial aid but I don’t know if that makes sense.

Any insight is appreciated!
