Banner Health trying to scam me when I used them with my VA benefits

I went in for a leg x-ray (I think two images were taken) due to a sports injury. I also had an office visit that same day.

Please keep in mind when I refer to "insurance" it means the VA healthcare which is not an insurance. The VA is contracted with Banner Urgent Care to provide services to veterans at no cost to the veteran when the VA hospital is too far away or if it's a non-emergency.

So…Banner says I owe money because insurance denied paying for one of the items. I checked out the bill and Banner tried charging the insurance twice for the same thing. The code was for an x-ray, but then they charged the insurance for the same code again. One of those codes was denied and shows duplicate charge, while the other one was paid for by insurance with $0 I was responsible for.

That makes sense the code that was charged twice – one of them was denied. However I called Banner and they claimed that because I had two x-rays done (two images) they charged twice because it required two separate radiologist reviews since it was two different angles of the same leg. I called bullsh*t on that and said that they were trying to charge the VA for the same code twice when it should have been grouped together. The person I spoke to doubled-down on that and said it was not a duplicate charge because each x-ray was a different part of my leg.

Am I going crazy here?
