Back in December my baby was hospitalized and had to be transported via ground ambulance 3.5 hours away. The hospitals were both in-network and Mercy hospitals. The ambulance said “Mercy Kids” on it and the people who transported him all had Mercy jackets.

I received a bill from Abbott EMS for the full amount. After four tries, they finally sent it to my insurance who had half discounted through another network and then paid the other half.

Abbott EMS is telling me they’re out-of-network and don’t accept discounts. I spoke with my insurance and they said this falls under the No Surprises Act. The network that discountend said it doesn’t and they’re going to reach out to my insurance to see what to do.

My question…. Am I going to responsible for the other half that was discounted? I met my max out of pocket and deductible last year (multiple hospital stays, birth, NICU, PICU) but they’re claiming they are out-of-network which I don’t understand since the ambulance and employees all said Mercy.
