I did not sign up for insurance with my new job within 60 days and HR says I have to wait until next year or new life event. I can be dumb sometimes but I’m not stupid. I simply forgot about it. And HR did nothing to shepherd me in. Instead, HR says I should have received notices from ADP to sign up. But the only notice I received from ADP was the denial of benefit coverage. And we don’t use ADP for everyday things like inputting hours or expenses. In fact, I even forgot about ADP for a while and had to reset my password. A little backstory: when I started the job, it took IT nearly a week to set up my email. One of the first emails I got was a pdf from HR about benefits. A month later my manager quit and the office was disorganized. This is my fifth job in 20 years. In the past, I always had a HR person shepherding me with a deadline and insisting if I waived benefits then I had to sign a document saying so. I didn’t do that with this new job. And never heard a peep about upcoming deadline. When I went back to that pdf it was too late. Am I screwed? And if so, why is the 60-day window set in stone?
