Am I reading this right? The Free HDHC plan is much better then the expensive PPOs?

We are signing up for new health insurance as my spouse is getting a new job at the local municipality level.

My job offers a HDHC plan but it costs 320$ a pay period and it is equivalent to my wife's offer of a FREE HDHC plan at zero dollars with the same offerings.

There are multiple listed PPO we can sign up for that are still cheaper than my old works HDHC plan for the family….But the Maximum out of pockets are insane compared to the HDHC.

Am I missing something?

The HDHC has a 6,000 in network and 12000 out of network maximum out of pocket and its free.

The PPOs basically have double that Maximum out of pocket and cost 5-6K in premiums per year.

And with the HDHC we can put 8300K away in an HSA which we have done for many years without touching it.

Am I missing something or is this just a no brainer to sign up for the HDHC plan my wife's work is offering.

Why would anyone not sign up for it? The premiums for the PPO's almost equal the maximum out of pocket for the HDHC plan….
